Orders Unit Manager, Monographic Acquisitions, University of Iowa Libraries, December 1995-present.
Supervise monographic order services unit processing 22,000+ orders annually, and Central Technical Services’ public service desk. Supervise serials claiming. Prepare orders for bibliographic searching department and ordering staff, including identifying processing priorities. Solve problems relating to unfilled or cancelled orders, lost or replacement materials. Work closely in consultation with faculty to identify available films to use for courses including searching multiple sources. Answer reference questions requiring researching multiple print, electronic, and web resources. Maintain intranet website for department. Select vendors to order materials from. Evaluate vendor services and negotiate service terms and contracts. Test new versions of our integrated library system—InfoHawk--reporting problems as necessary and recommending changes and enhancements to software. Department began comprehensive preservation program after my internship based on my recommendations.
